Tommy Hilfiger looks to reinvent itself
It appears that Tommy's days of urban glory is over. It all started when Snoop Dogg wore a Tommy Hilfiger jersey on Saturday Night Live in 1994, but now this era appears to be over. While Snoop has managed to resurrect his career, Tommy continues to struggle. The company has a high stake in the volatile urban market - but a lot of its street credibility is gone.

NY Times: "Analysts say the company is struggling to find new direction and see its latest advertising campaign as only a sign of desperation."

STPL:DSN
I keep repping this dude and his company, Staple Design, but it's because they're so godd*mn fresh! Their artwork rocks, so check out their portfolio.

NOTE to readers:
If you're sitting out there - and you've got lots of visual arts talent - and if you're moving in a simular, but not necessarily identical, direction as Staple, etc. - and you would like to showcase your talents to a lot of people - contact me right now!

You Blog My World
I recently felt compelled to discover a few new Danish blogs. I found out, for instance, that Lasse Rimmer (Danish comedian) has a weblog. Oh well, I also found out that there's a lot of boring Danish weblogs out there. Anyways, you can get a good overview @ "Danske Weblogs" (directory)

If you miss watching spaced-out music videos from great non-mainstream artists, here's a good Internet resource: Videos.Antville.Org. It's a site where members post links to their favorite artists such as Ladytron and Sigur Ros and hype video directors such as Chris Cunningham and Spike Jonze.

Speaking of music videos, Shynola is the company that produced Junior Senior's "Move Your Feet" and also a recent one from Queens of the Stone Age. They've also made videos from Radiohead and Morcheeba. So you can figure out that they're pretty good...

Finally, to finish off all this network punishing, bandwidth consuming video nonsense, I'll let you off by telling you to check out Ruben Fleischers's video for DJ Format's (f. Jurassic 5's Akil and Chali2Na) "We Know Something You Don't Know" - here (but watch out it's more than 30MB). It was actually shown on MTV's "Yo!" recently and you see people breakdancing while wearing huge teddybear costumes while the camera spins around. Check more stuff from Riven's homepage.

Dublab
One of the original favorites of Internet radio, LA-based Dublab.com is still airing some of the most interesting electronic beats on the world wide wide. The radioshows are mixed by actual people, not computers! Recently, Stones Throw's Egon contributed with a set of rare, minimal electronic stuff... wait it's by Telefon Tel Aviv when I click the link? I couldn't understand either how Egon could change his style so much :-) Whatever mix they'll serve you up on this page... Enjoy!

Speaking of Stones Throw, label owner Peanut Butter Wolf (I never get tired of that name) recently told UK-based magazine Dazed & Confused: It disgusts me how slept on Madlib still is. After three incredible albums in three years (Lootpack, Quasimoto & Yesterdays New Quintet), the year end charts come out and he still isn't on them. Fuck everyone. It makes me want to quit music and go into psychology or teaching."

Madlib: Blunted in the Bomb Shelter Mix

I couldn't agree more - at least I cleared my back when I told Madlib in person that I thought he was a genius last time Looppack visited Rust. So, if you read this, sleep no more. Madlib rocks and it's definately not too late to discover his music!

Through Good Times...
As we speak, Copenhagen's best heavy-rappers Sutrapumo are recording their 3-song demo @ Showstoppers Empire - a studio known for producing top-notch urban acts. I was by the studio yesterday, and my expectations for their demo are definately high. They're working hard (goddamn' hard - listen to the new Murs single snippet in MP3). One a sidenote, Sutrapumo will perform on Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen on August 9, 2003 in relation to the GAM3 Streetbasketball 3-on-3 tournament.

GAM3 Mixtape Video is Released
Forget the Nike Freestyle ads, this is the real deal :-) Visit the link to get YOUR copy.

Nike: Back on the Block
"New Nike ads feature edgy, raw one-on-one competition and emotion... the battle continues to live on the court through a culture of self-expression and creativity, with deep roots in competition and opposition." Nike's follow-up to their popular freestyle ads has arrived. Check out the official press release. And guess who's providing the soundtrack? That's right, The Neptunes baby. Man, this can't go wrong.

"The ads were produced by Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Oregon, and directed by Paul Hunter, who also collaborated with Nike on the 2001 nationally acclaimed "Freestyle" ads. Oscar-Nominated Darius Khondji ("Seven", "Panic Room", "Alien Resurrection" and "Evita") served as Director of Photography."

This shoe doesn't have anything to do with the ads, but isn't it nice?
