Crockett's Theme
During the last month or so, FPU's "Ocean Drive" (listen yourself) has received an obscene amount of airplay on my stereo. FPU is an alias of Peter Benisch from Sweden. It is just an amazing piece of electro-pop that samples the classic Miami Vice tune. It's out on the Turbo Records label from Canada. Don't be a square, check out the song and the remixes. Listening requires Real player.

Also, listento Tiga's instrumental version.

"Dale Linden interrogates a police officer about the 187, the 211, and every other police code popularized by gangsta rap. Problem is, Dr. Dre never rhymed about the 146 (impersonating a cop)."

Michael Rapaport stars as paperbag boy in a supermarket in a series of (very) short films entitled "10 Items Or Less". I've always thought he was a great actor and the films are quite funny [warning - broadband is a must].

Kevin Roberts, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, has been talking about lovemarks for a minute. He believes that iMac, Coca-Cola and Harley Davidson are lovemarks - they are more than brands because consumers "love" them and - in a sense - control them.

Check out the "Lovelinks".

Harddisken [In Danish]
Personally I think there is too little (serious) media coverage of Technology and The Internet. However, DR (Denmark's Radio) has a good resource - Harddisken på P1. It's a weekly radioshow, but their website has tons of 5-10 minute soundclips - check the archieve for your favorite topic.

Wee Bee Foolish is a hiphop group from NYC who provides a "funky fix for the independent crowd". The group members are Yesh (formerly Yeshua Da poED), Ken Boogaloo and DJ Bless. Wee Bee Foolish has played at The Nuyorican - a well known NY spot for talented rappers/poets on the NY underground scene. Read the interview from MVRemix.com.

New Standards for CD Protection?
My sources tell me that Eminem's upcoming "The Eminem Show" will set new standards for copyright protection. Apparently, the single "Without Me" is a distributed to a limited audience [sounds a bit puzzling] and the CD will have the type of copy protection that means that it cannot be played on a CD-ROM drive. Furthermore, reliable source [really!] HipHopSite writes:

"Though you won’t find the entire version of The Eminem Show available for download on the Net, what you will find is this---the beats and choruses for each track on the LP. So, not only is Em’s marketing squad actually furthering the buzz for the LP by purposely leaking this format, but they are also doing it by beating the Net heads at their own game---without losing sales!!"

The Smud Peddlers do Copenhagen!
Well, well, underground backpack favorites "The Hi & Mighty" featuring Cage & CopyWrite paid a visit to Loppen last nite. Needless to say the collective has back catalogue of hits galore and they're well respected for all the material they've put out - either as a group or as soloartists - and sometimes on their own Eastern Conference label.

There's one thing, though, that I'd like to say about their performance: DJ Mighty Mi is a great producer and cratedigger, but I think he should step down as tour-DJ for the group. All the tracks were performed well and especially CopyWrite and Cage's rhymes were clearly and fiercely delivered to a fairly young and unimpressed crowd. It was great to see that the MCs were doing their best to impress the crowd.

The transitions between the tracks, however, were clearly the problem, along with the sound ("Too much treble!"). When there are so many good DJ out there, why use a DAT? When you have so many good songs (and great productions), why cut them abbressively off every 2 minutes? Let the audience soak into the beats...

Ok, I give my best to the High & Mighty crew, and look forward to see them prosper as they follow the few directions above. And one more thing, if you go to a concert and the sound quality is poor let the soundman know! (also if its good). Peace...
