DJ Superfly - Amager Beach!
Hey fellas. Saturday July 20th, 14:00 to 17:20, marked the beginning of my aspiring, sub-career as a music selekta. The term "DJ" is a bit of an overstatement since I played compact discs, partly consisting of music I had programmed and mixed the night before. The place was Amager Strand, the large green area near Helgoland, and the event was a public sports/family day with a few hundred participants and some spectators. Anyways, I tell you, its a great experience to the play really LOUD and be 100% responsible for what's coming out the speakers. I played a chill-out set, ranging from Boards of Canada to Air, from Curtis Mayfield to Quincy Jones, from FPU to Felix Da Housecat, and from U$0, DGP and Ashanti to De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest and the Liquidators. I can't wait until next year! Peace out Stagesound for great rental service.

Digital Turntables
There seems to be a lot development within digital turntables that retain an analog feeling. Final Scratch claims to be "New School Technology with an Old School Feel and Appeal". Basically, you have the opportunity to scratch and cut on real viny, along with with having your entire audio archieve available at the touch of a button. It's been used by DJ Craze, among others. I'd like to try it someday, it's sure to be more exciting than software-only solutions like Mixmeister.

Nerd-site, Slashdot has a great discussion thread, from where I'd like to quote this post: "The Pioneer CDJ-1000 [pioneerprodj.com] has beaten this home-brew to the punch. It has pitch-adjust and a substantial jog-wheel that is actually adequate for scratching. DJ Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist have been using CDJ-1000s in their live shows for some time, now."

A dude from Stanford also presents his digital turntable (scroll down) based on a Stanton player. You can check out a video presentation of this product (Quicktime format)

Ocean Drive, Miami, FL
The clever fellas from Turbo Recordings have put together a great promotion website for my #1 track and best music purchase this year, FPU's "Crockett's Theme/Ocean Drive". FPU is the alter-ego of Swedish producer Peter Benisch. The site is includes a brand-new video (high or low quality, Quicktime format). Check it out!

Album of The Month
In Jockeyslut is DJ Shadow's "The Private Press" - :

"No parent likes to see their offspring led astray, but for a control freak like Josh Davis it must be doubly painful. He spent years fanatically grooming his unique vision of hip hop, yet when it finally stepped into the world, it wasn’t long before his beautiful child was molested. ‘Endtroducing’ completely redefined what music built from samples could be, but the afterbirth was a messy flood of ersatz imitations christened ‘trip hop’."
Read the review! (this month only)

Dominic Smith, A&R, Ninja Tune Records:
"Much broader in style and feel than ‘Endtroducing’, this record sees Josh Davis explore his love affair with rock and funk sample architecture, the hallmark of his sound. Extending that thesis sonically to include more punk and pop than previously, there’s a genuine sense of humour in some of the tracks, and a new degree of complexity too. If ‘Endtroducing’ was a landmark of cut‘n’paste then ‘The Private Press’ shows us what happens when you throw away the knife and opt for a stick of dynamite."

Speaking of Ninja Tune, they have just released a dub album version of Roots Manuva's latest offering, entitled "Dub Come Save Me" on Monday July 8th. Old-time favorite DJ Vadim has also released a new single - Combustible feat. Gift of the Gab. Also, check some of Ninja Tune's new isht in their Downloads section.

SuTraPuMo
According to reliable sources, upcoming hardrockers SuTraPuMo have inked a 1-year studio contract with famous ex-Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen. They have already recorded a 3-track demo in Flemming's Sweet Silence studios in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Metallica's "Ride the lightning" and "Master of puppets" were recorded.

It's Been A Long Time
--- I shouldn't have left you. But I'm back. Check out my article in Splendid about Roskilde Festival 2002. My editor thought it was good fun (after a little editing apparently).
